Chinook Announces its First Ready Tactical Medical Kit (TMK)
|
We have been doing tons of research and prototyping and have introduced the first of several new Tactical Medical Kits (TMK's). These Kits follow our recently introduced Tactical Medical Modules (TMM's). The new TMK's are packaged in Custom Chinook Tactical Packs and range in size and contents for individual and team use. Different from the TMK's, the TMM's are packed in vacuum sealed containers and feature essen tial supplies needed for a specific injury type.
This first Kit, the TMK-BO (Tactical Medical Kit - Blow Out) is designed for individual use in any scenario where the user would need to treat severe traumatic wounds. Users just need to add their preferred hemostatic agent to the following included essential items:
- 1 Primed Compressed Gauze
- 1 Petroleum Gauze, 3"x9"
- 1 SOF Tactical Tourniquet
- 1 Olaes Modular bandage, 4"
The TMK Pouch (the Kit Container empty) is made of rugged durable Cordura fabric and features a large YKK zipper. It is MOLLE compatable with PALs webbing and a Malice clip system.
The Kit and the Pouch are currently available in Black and will soon be available in ACU, OD, and Coyote Tan. |
CDC Releases Malaria Risk Application Map
|
CDC announces the release of additional malaria resources: the Malaria Risk Map, the Blood Donor Screening webpage, and an email subscription service for notification about malaria outbreaks.
The Malaria Risk Map (www.cdc.gov/malaria/risk_map) is an interactive map that provides location-specific information on current CDC assessments of malaria risk and recommendations for preventive malaria treatment. This map was initially developed to provide blood banks with information to assess risk of malaria exposure in potential donors. The map can also be used by health care providers and travelers to determine recommended preventive malaria treatment by country of travel. This map is undergoing final development, and your feedback is appreciated (mrmfeedback@cdc.gov).
A new Blood Donor Screening webpage (www.cdc.gov/malaria/blood_donor.htm) has been added to the "Information for specific groups and settings" section of the malaria homepage. This page will provide blood banks with links to resources that can help them determine risk of malaria exposure in potential donors.
CDC is also providing an email subscription service for prompt notification about malaria outbreaks, changes to malaria risk assessments, changes in recommendations for preventive malaria treatment, and other related information. Subscribe to get email updates.

Learning Objectives - At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe and review lessons learned from Operation Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom
- Perform field medical skills expected from SOF and tactical EMS during deployment
- Understand the position of the military in operations other than war
- Describe and manage operational aeromedical problems
- Describe and review lessons learned from Afghanistan and Iraq
- Understand homeland defense initiatives
- Describe the special operations capabilities of other services and in other countries
